Description

The Tunqueley Hotel is a family business that dates back to 1986 and was among the first hotels built in San Martín de los Andes. Its name derives from the Mapuche language and means Place of tranquility. The corner where the Hotel is located, has a vast and rich history, as well as the family that owns it: the Carro. In this place the Regiment 3 of Cavalry settled, towards the end of the 19th century, the first bulwark of the foundation of our marvelous San Martin de los Andes. So much so that, during the excavation to fix the foundations of the hotel, were found remains that belonged to that regiment, such as horseshoes, ammunition and tools. The Carro family descends from ancient settlers and pioneers of the region. The first of them was Don Jesús Carro, Spanish, who arrived in San Martín de los Andes in 1911 for the laying of the telegraphic line that would communicate this town with the world. By profession, telegraphist, he later worked at Correo Argentino and had 14 children. Juan, one of the children, and his wife, María Baer, set up their house and a small general store in the same corner where years later, together with their three children: Jorge, Cato and Hansi, they will build and develop the Tunqueley Hotel . This hotel was inaugurated on January 6, 1986, and since its inception was managed by Juan Eduardo (Hansi) Carro, who along with the hotel also developed a Travel Agency of the same name. In those early years, Hansi personally traveled to the city of Buenos Aires to knock on the doors of the main travel agencies of that time, promoting San Martin de los Andes and its ventures. The owners of these agencies eventually became personal friends of Hansi and his father, and to this day they continue to entrust their clients to the Tunqueley Hotel. Hansi became Secretary of Tourism of San Martin de los Andes and his management as tourist promoter of the municipality was awarded at international level. SMA was placed during those years on the podium of the municipalities with the best tourist image in the world. Today, Hansi's legacy is in the hands of his two daughters: Paula and Daniela Carro, who manage and attend personally, taking care of every detail, along with a faithful team of collaborators who work with the family for many years. In this new stage, the hotel has incorporated avant-garde hotel practices in the care of the Environment and Corporate Social Responsibility, which make it an example to follow among their peers. Another of his innovations has been to create a unique Cultural Cycle in San Martin de los Andes, which turns the hotel into a real art gallery every month, where rotating exhibitions of paintings, photographs and sculptures by local and regional artists are exhibited. They give the hotel a unique character, spreading the work of the excellent local artists. With an unbeatable location in the heart of the town, just one block from its main square, it has become a permanent venue for artistic and cultural events, an unmissable meeting place for the pioneers of the town and a warm refuge for our travelers , who enjoy during their stay the warmth and service vocation of their owners, who turn each stay of our guests into a true experience. Today, we can proudly say that the Tunqueley Hotel is a place of rest, but also a place with history, a meeting place, a place of art, a place that makes you want to return ....
